Merry Christmas MadWood Turnery!

Our new Powermatic 3520B, was delivered to MadWood Turnery on December 23, 2011! I never dreamt that in one year I would go from a $50 Harbor Freight to one of the best machines available...ones life changes so quickly. I now have capacity to make MUCH larger items, 20" over the bed, who knows off the end..... This was a great day!

Merry Christmas & Thank You!

I want to say THANK YOU to all of my family, friends, and customers. You have all been so supportive this past year. You have helped me realize a dream that I never knew existed.
I especially want to thank my wife,Allison, who, without her love and dedication, has really been the driving force behind MadWood.

To all I wish Merry Christmas!!!!

..................I add my thanks to everyone who has supported MadWood this past year. I'm so proud of what has been accomplished! It is a joint effort, but I have to give so much credit to Niels and his talent. And his work ethic. I'm a very lucky woman to be Mrs. MadWood :)

Madagascar Rosewood!!

Madagascar Rosewood, aka Bois deRose, 2 of the last pieces in the USA, and quite possibly the world!

I don't know what I'm going to make yet, but it is so rare that I purchased it to have for future use, I found a piece on the web the size of a yardstick (3/16 x 1 1/2 x 32) for $186, so at that rate these are worth thousands!!

Welcome to MadWood's Blog

Welcome to Turnings from MadWood Turnery!

My name is Niels Madsen and I'm a Master Craftsman, wood turner, from Portland, OR. My business, MadWood Turnery offers one of a kind, heirloom gifts for any occasion and everything at MadWood Turnery is handmade by me. The mediums I use are rare, exotic and domestic woods, colorful acrylics and even feathers! With plates, bowls, pens and much more, my collection includes a wide variety of items. That perfect gift is a click away at www.MadWoodTurnery.com and I encourage you to go browse! Custom orders are always welcome and I enjoy working with my clients to make them that 'perfect something' that they had in mind. I started this blog, to show a little of what goes on in the shop here at MadWood. The process of turning is interesting and something I love to do. To create a piece of art, out of whatever medium I am working with, never gets old. Like nature, no two pieces are ever alike. Each is individual, beautiful and one of a kind and I thought it would be fun to share some of the madness, behind MadWood Turnery with you! Contact me with any questions, comment or ask away, but I hope you enjoy,'Turnings from MadWood Turnery'
